Name: Zita Subject: Tobasco & Vietnam Date: Sun, 18 Jul 2010 14:31 I looked for this story to show a friend, I had posted it years ago, but it seems to be gone. It is worth telling again. A good friend of mine was a US Army Ranger serving in the Republic of Vietnam in 1969 as a Radio Telephone Operator (RTO). The LRRP Rations were so horrible that all the men carried a bottle of Tobasco with them. On 14 Jul 69, his team was dropped off, and immediately made contact with an North Vietnamese Army element. My friend immediately radio'd, "LRP 4-3 CONTACT!" and they all hit the ground. The firefight had started. Three grenades were thrown by the enemy, one in front of the RTO. He covered it with his radio (the radio is the size of a standard backpack and built to sustain combat). The grenade detonated and broke the radio (he could hear II Field Force Vietnam, but they couldn't hear him). He tried to fix the radio under fire, while the others were trying to find the backup radio while fighting. Once the back up radio was found, extraction and suppressive fire were called in. The team was extracted. For his efforts my friend was awarded the Silver Star (though he was put in for the Distinguished Service Cross). About 30 years later, he and some of the men he served with were hanging out. The subject of Tobasco came up, and they explained to me how important it was for survival (couldn't eat the stuff without it). My friend told one of the other guys that the whole time he was trying to fix that Army Radio, he was more worried about replacing his bottle of Tobasco Sauce that was broken. I knew the story of the contact, but once I heard he was more worried about his bottle of Tobasco Sauce than he was the radio - I contacted the McIlhenny Company people through the "contact us" on the website to replace the bottle. Boy did they! I didn't tell my friend about it, and on 14 Jul 2000 he gets this GIANT bottle of Tobasco with a personalized label signed by the president of McIlhenny. He carried it around for about three months showing it to people. It was really great.

Name: Nancy Subject: Love tabasco sauce Date: Mon, 05 Apr 2010 14:20 I love tabasco on almost anything, for example, shrimp or shrimp and oyster cocktail, fresh oysters (lemon, salt and tabasco), Lobster, fish, chips, peanuts, Clamato, Bloody Mary's, beef and chicken soups. My daughter loves it on almost anything and also likes to put it on popcorn and it does taste good. Tabasco is an Internationally favorite all over the world not only in the United States. You can find it in Europe and in any fine dining restaurant in Mexico. It is funny but ask for a tabasco sauce bottle anywhere in the world and they are sure to take one out. The best tabasco sauce in the world!
